COVENANT COMMUNITY CHURCH (CCC) VACAVILLE, CALIFORNIA
Title: Director of Children’s Ministry
Purpose: To coordinate and administer the Christian Education Ministry at CCC for children from age two through fifth grade.
Skills: The Director of Children’s Ministry (DCM) should have:
- The ability, passion, and initiative to communicate the love of Jesus Christ to children of the church through multiple teaching methods;
- An understanding of the developmental learning stages of children and the ability to apply that understanding to teaching Christian truth and principles;
- Strong planning, organization, and communication skills
- The ability to organize, plan, teach and supervise lessons and group activities;
- The ability to be an advanced planner;
- The ability to recruit, motivate and train others in the work of the Ministry;
- The ability to clearly communicate the activities and goals of the Children’s Ministry to the church;
- The ability to work well with others in a team atmosphere; and
- The ability to work with modern office equipment and supplies
Work Hours: 32 hours per week – Full time, Exempt
Reports to: Pastor
Supervises: Toddler (2/3s) program volunteers; teachers and leaders involved in Children’s worship programs, special events, and Vacation Bible School; and child care providers for ages birth through 5th grade during special events
Works with: Pastor, CCC Staff, Children’s Ministry chairperson, members, and volunteers in Children’s Ministry; Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS) Ministry leaders
Specific Duties: The DCM must:
- Act in accordance with the Book of Order of the Presbyterian Church (P.C.-U.S.A.);
- Work with Session and the Children’s Ministry to create and implement the mission, vision, and goals for Children’s Ministry at CCC;
- Recruit, Train, Motivate, Network, and Evaluate ministry leaders and teachers for the children’s worship programs - currently the Toddler Room (2-3 year olds), Promiseland, Children’s Worship, and Vacation Bible School
- Ensure that schedules for teachers and assistants are completed and disseminated
- Coordinate and participate in special events, including outreach parties, for children
- Coordinate nursery care (ages birth through 2) and activities for special events
- Develop and implement curricula for each age group in conjunction with the Children’s Ministry
- Serve as the Child Protection Policy administrator and reporter
- Attend worship services and prepare weekly Children’s sermons
- Encourage Sunday School attendance through regular communication with children and parents
- Attend and participate in staff, ministry, and Session meetings as required; and
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements: The successful candidate shall have the following qualifications:
Education: High school diploma or GED, with college coursework in education and/or childhood development desirable
Experience: Prior paid or volunteer experience in teaching and/or children’s ministry is desirable
